Strengthening Academic Exchange: Myongji College Delegation Visits Taiwan

In a meaningful step towards international academic collaboration, we had the honour of arranging a visit for a distinguished 28-member delegation from Myongji College, Korea, including professors, department managers, and a representative from the Korea Productivity Center. The trip focused on academic exchange, curriculum innovation, and institutional systems across two vibrant education hubs in Taipei and Hsinchu, Taiwan.

Founded in 1974 by Dr. Yoo Sang-Geun—former Minister of National Land Unification—Myongji College is home to the College Innovation Group, which aims to deliver cutting-edge curricula aligned with global economic and technological developments. This Taiwan visit centered on exploring programs related to Cyber Security, Fashion/Living/Design, and sharing systems and technologies that support educational operations.

DAY 1 – Hsinchu

Visit to NYCU Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center (IEC)
The delegation began their journey at the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (IEC) of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU). Hosted by Executive Director Dr. Michael Lin, the session provided deep insights into how NYCU fosters a culture of entrepreneurship.

Key focus areas included:

  • Entrepreneurship training for students and faculty

  • Support for business strategy development and fundraising

  • Innovation competitions and incubation support

  • Industry-university collaboration and commercialization strategies

The IEC’s holistic support framework resonated with the goals of Myongji College, particularly in fostering innovation-driven education.

Visit to NYCU Museum
The group also had the opportunity to tour the NYCU Museum, which showcases the rich legacy of the university’s development in engineering, technology, and innovation. Through the exhibits, the delegation learned about NYCU’s foundational milestones, its key role in Taiwan’s industrial development, and its continuous efforts to merge tradition with future-forward education. The museum visit deepened the understanding of Taiwan’s education evolution and institutional values.

Tsing Hua University Campus Tour and Research Exchange

Later in the day, the delegation visited National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), where they participated in a guided history tour of the campus.

A highlight of the visit was a research sharing session led by Professor Chuo-Huei C, featuring the university’s pioneering work on “Chasing the Sun, Imitating Candlelight” Smart Lighting technology.

This patented lighting system—hailed as superior even to lighting on the International Space Station—uses light spectrum modulation to support circadian rhythm regulation and improve sleep and mood, particularly benefiting individuals facing insomnia or depression.

DAY 2 – Taipei

Tour of National Taiwan University (NTU)

The second day of the program included a cultural and academic tour of the National Taiwan University Museum, offering the delegation a window into Taiwan’s higher education development and NTU’s role as a cornerstone of academic excellence.

Visit to National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST)
The delegation concluded their visit at NTUST, where they were warmly received by:

  • Professor Ying-Jung Yeh, who gave an overview of NTUST’s legacy and strategic direction

  • Professor Shi-Cho Cha, Dean of the Department of Asset Management and Director of the Center for Information Security Research and Teaching, who elaborated on NTUST’s advancements in cyber security education, asset management systems, and the integration of IT in university operations

  • And their colleagues

This visit provided valuable perspectives on how Taiwanese universities are evolving their educational offerings to remain globally competitive and industry-relevant.

Looking Ahead

This successful academic exchange between Myongji College and several top-tier Taiwanese universities highlights the potential for deeper cooperation in cross-border education and research.
