January 12, 2023: Panel discussion on the future of the digital economy was held at the Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara. The event was organized by Beyond4, BlackStorm Consulting and Alta Group, sponsored by Telesign and Zoho APAC.
The panel discussion was moderated by Karl Baldry, Enterprise Account Director at Telesign. The panelists included Yvonne Yong, Director of New Market Development at MDEC, Nicholas Kew, Associate Director at Alta Group, and Hasan Mehdi, Executive Director (Group CMO) at Dotlines.
The event began with the arrival of guests at 4:00 pm, followed by the opening remarks by CEO of Beyond4, Mr Ruban at 4:30 pm. The sponsors, Zoho APAC and Telesign then shared their products and perspectives on the digital economy, after which the panel discussion started at 5:00 pm. The discussion covered various aspects of the digital economy from trends, challenges, and opportunities.

Nicholas Kew shared his perspective on the digital economy from a Southeast Asian perspective, focusing on digital-enabled companies in Malaysia. He highlighted the importance of securities and compliance for investor preference and how Malaysia is moving towards digitalisation while ensuring responsible innovation.
Hasan Mehdi shared his experience in the B2C market and how businesses focus on process automation to cut costs in the consumer-cloud space. He also discussed the trend of using big data to understand customer behaviour and adapt to their preferences.
Yvonne Yong shared many initiatives that MDEC and the government sector are taking to encourage digital transformation. She emphasised the importance of creating a conducive environment for innovation and how Malaysia is striving to become a regional hub for digital entrepreneurship.

The panel discussion concluded at 6:00 pm with Q&A session, followed by a dinner and networking session. The event provided valuable insights and ideas on the future of the digital economy in Malaysia and the Southeast Asian region.
