Managing Trustworthy Data in The Digital World

September 29, 2022: BlackStorm Consulting was an event partner in Managing Trustworthy Data in The Digital World, organised by Telesign and Beyond4 which was held at Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara. Jeslin Bay, BlackStorm Consulting’s Group CEO, opened the session with welcome remark, followed by an introduction from Shawn Kok, Digital Identity and Fraud Prevention Expert at Telesign.

  Shawn’s introduction of Telesign, a digital identity solution that establishes trust between people and businesses, gives the company a jumpstart on managing trustworthy data.

Data management saw a dramatic shift as big data is more accessible and transparent in form, function, and flow. How can we trust data if we don’t understand how it is collected, used, and managed? This event was timely and was an eye-opener for everyone present.   

Mr Abhijit Kulkarni, VP of Asia Pacific Telesign, first spoke about how managing data for end users’ better experiences while ensuring data integrity can make the digital ecosystem evolve in a way that helps businesses grow. He noted that the digital ecosystem should be built around trust and engagement.  

During the discussion, Mr Abhijit also shared how companies can balance delivering a better customer experience while maintaining data integrity and how that can lead to reliable business decisions. As the discussion turned to data integrity, other speakers also chimed in.  

When asked about his opinion on data integrity as a digital economy’s foundation, Mr Gopi Ganesalingam, Head of MDEC’s Ecosystem Development, responded by discussing the extension of the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) to address inefficiency among entities due to a lack of data transparency.  

Mr Gopi also expressed his thoughts on how reliable data can bring an entity closer to digital transformation. He added, however, that people and businesses must have the right skills to benefit fully from trustworthy data.    The discussion became especially lively when Mr Najib Zulkifl, Head of Emerging Tech and Innovation, shared his team’s experience with MRANTI in implementing data-traceability policies for procedures.  

 Ms Karen Puah, Advisory Board of the Fintech Association, also shared her opinion about the importance of trustworthy data for accelerating digital transformation in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and fintech players. She believes that trustworthy data plays a big role in creating a fintech-friendly world.   After an hour-long panel discussion, the event ended with a networking and dinner session. It was a great turnout. The guests and speakers were happy to be surrounded by people from different organisations and backgrounds, learning about the new digital trend in managing data.
