  • The event was concluded with a fireside chat where Mr. Anurag Srivastav, Mr. Duncan Hui from Mozilla and our Country Manager, Mr. Martin Chin shared their experiences and insights on managing big data in the 5G era.
  • Our Co-Founder, Ms. Jeslin Bay was the emcee and moderator for the event.

17 January 2020: The new year marks a busy start for BlackStorm Consulting as we travelled back-to-back, from Bangkok to Taipei to Malaysia. It was a pleasure for BlackStorm Consulting to co-host the event “The Shift From 4G to 5G: Optimising Big Data in the Hyperconnected World” with Industry Accelerator & Patent Strategy (IAPS) and SGM Analytics at Taiwan Tech Arena. The focus was to introduce the 5G network and its significance to enterprises.

5G has been a buzzword in the recent years, setting foothold in more than 30 countries. It is important to understand this aspect as the technology is advancing fast each day.

Besides delivering greater speed, latency and connectivity, 5G is likely to integrate with Internet of Things (IoT), supporting communication in one avenue through numerous smart devices.

Anurag addressing questions from the audience

“Do you really want to spend without even realising / understanding what you want to do?”

Anurag addressed a participant’s query pertinent to increasing efficiency to the company operations. In his opinion, enterprises should not just introduce new technologies for the sake of it. They need to go through cost-benefit analysis and then determine which will yield better returns at the end of the day.

Privacy Issue

With data breach hovering worldwide, people are getting more concerned about their privacy being invaded when their information are presented to third parties.

Anurag addressed the issue, stating that ‘give something to get something’. He implied that especially in banking sectors, some data need to be given so as to utilise the facilities. It would be two-way since certain information are mandatory and cannot be avoided not to provide.

However, he understood the importance of privacy and mentioned that many countries are starting to pass laws for data and privacy protection. He also emphasised that SGM Analytics would not make malicious use of any data retrieved by its tools and systems, ensuring the security is robust and will not intrude anyone’s privacy.

The panelists sharing their views

Fireside Chat – Managing Data in 5G Era

The discussion initiated with interesting views from the panelists on the data management of 5G compared to 4G. Anurag shared his thoughts on data extraction and monetisation while Duncan, Senior Manager from Mozilla talked about data protection.

In response to a question on how 5G going to shape the development of browser, Duncan stated that Web IoT that Mozilla is working on can be applicable to household items such as lamps and doors, improving the communication tremendously.

Our Country Manager, Martin had addressed the expectation of 5G being mainstream and the disparity in 5G-enabled healthcare. Martin was previously in healthcare and biotechnology sector, having vast knowledge and experience in these aspects.

Anurag, as a veteran in the telecommunication, thought positively on Taiwan’s industrial IoT. He remarked that Taiwan is an ‘ideal place to start experimenting’ as Taiwan is ahead of other countries in terms of smart devices, their usage and the network. It would be optimal if Taiwan were to set an example in this aspect.

All in all, 5G holds great potential and will be influencing the world imminently. Many enterprises are preparing the necessary infrastructures for extensive data volume that can enable a faster and smarter connectivity, supporting the ecosystems in the various industries. It is presumable for 5G to facilitate and integrate with other technologies to bring benefits, shaping how corporations and individuals work in the future.

This session had been a success with everyone taking insights away from the room. Once again, BlackStorm Consulting would like to thank IAPS for the support.

More and more events will be organised and attended by BlackStorm Consulting. Stay tuned for our installations!
